Yes, Andy was great and right on Mont Ventoux. No, he didn't make any mistakes.

Andy is just and only 24, he already got the white jersey in Giro and Tour, was second in the Giro, won a Liege and was an amazing helper in many many races for an amazing team used to race as a team. Team Saxo Bank lost 2 important men in this Tour, Arvesen and Voight, but managed to bring his 2 leaders in the top 5: today in Paris Andy will be second behind a very very strong Contador and Frank 5. They have been the only racers daring to attack him seriously for the final win and for the podium.

Andy ha appena 24 anni, ha già conquistato la maglia bianca al Giro e al Tour, è stato secondo al Giro, ha vinto la Liegi ed è stato un fantastico gregario in tantissime corse per una fantasica squadra che corre come una squadra. La SB ha perso 2 uomini importanti in questo Tour, Arvesen e Voight, ma è riuscita comunque ha portare i suoi due capitani nei primi 5: oggi a Parigi Andy sarà secondo dietro a un Contador davvero forte e Frank 5. Sono stati loro gli unici ad avere il coraggio di attaccare seriamente Contador per la vittoria finale e per il podio.

I am really disappointed to read so many critical and negative comments about yesterday race and I want point out here why in my opinion Andy didn't make any mistakes on Mont Ventoux, on the contrary he showed how great he is as a racer and as a man.

Mi dispiace molto leggere tanti commenti critici e negativi riguardo la corsa di ieri e qui voglio puntualizzare perché secondo me Andy non ha commesso alcun errore sul Mount Ventoux, ma al contario ha dimostrato quanto è grande come corridore e come uomo.

1. Overtaking Contador in GC would have been an unrealistic aim yesterday.

   Superare Contador in CG non sarebbe stato un obiettivo realistico ieri.

2. Wisely team Saxo Bank made the race for Frank, trying to bring him on the podium. It's not Andy for bringing up his brother here: it's a Saxo Bank rider to bring up a team mate in agreement with a team strategy. And that strategy was right: Frank is 5 now and in Paris Saxo Bank will have got a very important aim having 2 men in the top 5. In the Giro Team Saxo Bank aimed to stages wins, in this Tour to the jellow jersey, the podium, the GC. Also Frank's stage victory was for that: he was 3 then in GC.

   Saggiamente la SB ha fatto la corsa per Frank, cercando di portarlo sul podio. Non si trattava di Andy che cercava di portare avanti suo fratello, qui, ma di un SB che cercava di portare avanti un compagno di squadra in accordo con una strategia di squadra. E questa strategia si è dimostrata giusta: Frank è quinto adesso e a Parigi la SB avrà raggiunto un risultato molto importante, avendo due uomini nei primi 5. Al Giro la SB mirava alle vittorie di tappa, in questo Tour mirava alla maglia gialla, al podio e alla CG. Anche la vittoria di tappa di Frank era finalizzata a questo: dopo era 3 terzo in CG.

3. Andy was the best on Mont Ventoux, I agree (not everybody do) and if Saxo Bank would not have others racers for the top five or podium of course he would have tryed to win the stage. But Contador was very strong too and would have followed him for sure. Probably Andy would have been defeated at the sprint, because Contador is faster then him. However he would have tryed, fighting to the end as he always does. But the team strategy was different and in my opinion right.

   Andy era il migliore sul MV, sono d'accordo (non tutti lo sono) e se la SB non avesse avuto altri corridori per i primi 5 o per il podio sicuramente avrebbe cercato di vincere la tappa. Ma anche Contador era molto forte e l'avrebbe seguito senz'altro. Probabilmente Andy sarebbe stato battuto in volata, poiché Contador è più veloce di lui. Tuttavia avrebbe provato, lottando fino alla fine come fa sempre. Ma la strategia di squadra era un'altra e secondo me era giusta.

4. All the above it's about cycling, then there is life: you can live and fight for yourself or be part of a project, a community, a collective. Team Sax Bank has strong team worths and Schelck brothers always said that family and personal relationships are important, more important then individual success. That involves your life conception, your philosophy, your choice.

   Quanto sopra riguarda il ciclismo, poi c'è la vita: si può vivere e lottare per se stessi o essere parte di un progetto, una comunità, un collettivo. La SB ha forti valori di squadra ed i fratelli Schleck hanno sempre detto che per loro la famiglia ed i rapporti personali sono importanti, più importanti del successo individuale. E questo riguarda il tuo modo di vedere la vita, la tua filosofia, le tue scelte.

Today is a great day for Andy and for us. To be on the final podium of Tour the France is something that only few can dream and the most never achieve. It's fair that he enjoys this day without any sorrows or complaints or criticisms. It's his day. And it's beautiful to see two young racers who prefer team and brotherhood worths to individualistic and egoistic aims. Everybody's mouths are full of words against doping but does anybody see that only a different philosophy of life can change cycling world? Contador on the Gazzetta says that Andy Schleck didn't any mistakes and I hope that my favourite reporter, M.Pastonesi, will change his mind about this stage that has been beautiful, thrilling and strongly fighted to the last. Andy attacked 8 times for his team, not (only) for his brother and was great... as usual.

Oggi è un gran giorno per Andy e per noi. Essere sul podio finale del TdF è qualcosa che soltanto in pochi possono sognare e che la maggior parte non raggiungono. E' giusto che si goda questo giorno senza alcun dispiacere o lamentela o critica di sorta. E' il suo giorno. Ed è bello vedere due giovani corridori che preferiscono i valori della squadra e della fraternità rispetto ad obiettivi individualistici ed egoistici. Tutti si riempiono la bocca di parole contro il doping ma nessuno vede che soltanto una filosofia di vita diversa può cambiare il mondo del ciclismo? Contador sulla Gazzetta dice che Andy Schleck non ha commesso alcun errore e io spero che il mio cronista preferito, M.Pastonesi, cambi idea riguardo questa tappa, che è stata bella, avvincente e combattuta fieramente fino all'ultimo. Andy ha attaccato 8 volte per la sua squadra e non (solo) per suo fratello ed è stato grande... come sempre.

TdF- No podium for Frank...but you Andy were great

Andy made a very hard work for to bring his brother on the podium and in my opinion he would have won today stage if he didn't keep on trying till the last minute to get this aim. When he went away with Contador it was too late: Garate and Martin, in a breack from the first kms were already at the sprint in the awfull wind of Mount Ventoux top. Garate won, Martin was 2 and Andy 3. Contador didn't work for Armstrong but Armstrong was glued to Frank's wheel. I'm not happy to see him on the podium in Paris but must admit that today he was strong. Chapeau! Bravo to Nibali too: he was with the best racers nearly till the finish.
Andy was great twice: 1 because he show to be one of the better racers in the peloton (with Contador) 2 because of his love and loyalty to his brother. So, I'm a little sorry but a lot moved about today stage. Howover I already knew that Andy Schleck is not only a good racer but also a good guy.
To Paris, now! I'm looking forward to see you on that podium, even if on second step: you are so young! you have the time to go there how many times you want.

TdF- Allez allez allez!!

Today it's Ventoux day and I hope it will be Schleck day as well. My fingers are crossed and... we'll see. Paris is so near now! Allez!

TdF 18: Andy is STILL second!!!!

I must admitt it: I didn't belive that Andy could be still second after the TT in Annecy. But Saxo Bank strategy was perfect as usual and Schleck(s) attacked so strong in the mountain stages that the seconds gained were enought to allow to Andy to resist.
Contador made a (too much) amazing TT, and I stop here. After the bad news about Di Luca we don't need to talk about doping anymore, we are feed up. And that news is bad for cycling, not because it's about Di Luca (I don't like him and I think he was doped also in 2007 Giro). Who beated Fabian Cancellara in the Tour TT last year has been not very 'lucky' then...
Now we are looking forward the Mont Ventoux.
We want both Schleck on Paris podium!!
Allez Andy!! Allez Frank!! It has been wonderful to see you in real once again, even if I must drive for a lot of hours and kms in this awfull hotness. But I'd do anything for you.

TdF 16 – 17 By your reporters from the Alpes

What a day today!! Yesterday morning Kimberley, Marleen and I woke up early and drove half a day to reach the Alpes and watch the stage 16 of the Tour – or better, to watch Andy and Frank racing there. My Dutch friends are my guests for their holydays in Italy and I'm happy to share my adventures on the Tour with others Schleck fangirls.

So we stoped in Prés-St.Denis, where the road was closed, we ate something in a bar watching the Tour in tv and went up on a curve to watch it in real when the race passed by there. And then we came back to the bar to see the end. It was a sad day. We saw Andy and Frank. I avoided to take pics to watch Andy properly. But Saxo Bank worked a lot for nothing: at the end Andy was still 5 (even if Frank was 8) and moreover Jens Voigt crashed and retired. I was a bit sad last night.

We slept in an hostel with Fede and his nice family and today morning we went to Bourg St.Maurice to see the start of stage 17. There was a lot of people, Saxo Bank team bus came last and was parked far away from the bariers so we could only take few pics.

I was lucky anyway: I met the photographer G.Noesen with his family, Andy looked at us smiling when we called him I took a good pic of Frank at the start, interviewing by RTL. Oh, thanks George for the beautiful pics you gave me and for the secret mission you accepted to carry out for me.

After the start we went back to that nice bar in Près-St.Denis to watch the Tour on tv and... what a stage!! Andy attacked with Frank and the went to the finish alone with Albert Contador (happy to leave behind Armstrong and Kloden). Frank won the stage, both Schleck was on the podium and in GC Andy is 2 now and Frank 3. Contador kept the jellow jersey (and Andy the white one of course).

The Tour started today

After two pretty boring weeks finally we saw a decent stage: Alberto Contador attacked and only Andy Schleck was able to follow him. He didn't spend all in this stage and of course he was right, because there are too many stages left and keeping the jellow jersey would not be easy. Rinaldo Nocentini lost it today after 8 days: a record for Italian cycling. And George Hincapie lost it too yesterday after he got it by a brave breack away: he must say 'thank you' to his team mate Cav who pulled the group in the finish for the green jersey. There is a justice: Cav didn't get it and went behind in GC as a penalty because of his uncorect behaviour in the sprint, when he closed Husvold against the barrier.
Dopoi due settimane decisamente noiose finalmente abbiamo visto una tappa decente: A.Contador ha attaccato e solo A.Schleck è stato capace di seguirlo. Non ha dato tutto in questa tappa e sicuramente ha fatto bene, perché mancano ancora troppe tappe e tenere la maglia gialla non sarebbe facile. R.Nocentini l'ha persa oggi dopo 8 giorni: un record per il ciclismo italiano. E G.Hincapie l'ha persa anche lui ieri dopo averla conquistata con una fuga coraggiosa: deve ringraziare il suo compagno di squadra Cav che ha tirato il gruppo nel finale per la maglia verde. C'è una giustizia: Cav non l'ha ottenuta ed è stato retrocesso nella CG come punizione per il so comportamento scorretto in volata: ha chiuso Husvold contro la transenna.
I am in holydays so I can't up date my blog as usual, but I'll be on Gran San Bernardo on July/22 and I'll try to take some good pics. I'm watching the Tour in tv anyway and since now I missed only one stage: unfortunately it was just the day of Niki Sorensen's win. Andy wrote moving words about it on his twitter and I'm happy too for that young racer who deserved it for sure. I saw the crash of poor Arvesen then: he brock his colarbone and must retire. I'm really sad for that. But we saw too many crashes in this TdF and too many racers are already at home.
Io sono in vacanza e perciò non posso aggiornare il mio blog come al solito, ma sarò sul Gran San Bernardo il 22 Luglio e cercherò di fare qualche bella foto. Però sto guardando il Tour in tv e fin'ora ho perso soltanto una tappa: sfortunatamente proprio quella vinta da N.Sorensen. Andy ha avuto parole commosse per lui su twitter e anch'io sono contenta per questo giovane corridore che se lo meritava proprio. Ma ho visto la caduta delpovero Arvesen: si è rotto la clavicola e si è dovuto ritirare. Mi dispiace veramente tanto. Ma abbiamo visto troppe cadute in questo TdF e troppi corridori sono già a casa.
As a result, we have Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck and Vincenzo Nibali (bravo!) on the podium today. Andy is 5 in GC now and got the white jersey. Frank ended 4 and gained places in GC. Contador got the jellow jersey but he's better then Armstrong (no, I didn't change my mind): Sir Lance is still second in GC but showed he can't resist in the better racers' group on the hard climbs of Alpes.
Il risultato della tappa di oggi è che abbiamo A.Contador, A.Schleck e V.Nibali (bravo!) sul podio. Andy è 5° in CG adesso ed ha conquistato la maglia bianca. Frank ha terminato 4 ed ha guadagnato posizioni in CG. Contador ha conquistato la maglia gialla ma meglio lui che Armstrong (no, non ho cambiato idea): Sir Lance è ancora secondo in CG ma ha mostrato di non poter resistere nel gruppo dei migliori sulle dure salite delle Alpi.

Allez Andy!! I'm looking forward the next stages, I'm looking forward to see you again attacking and wining as you can do.

Must I change my mind about Lance?

You know I don't like Lance Armstrong and have never been glad about his coming back. I didn't like how he acted in Astana and with Alberto Contador. He seems to me too much arrogant and quite unpolite.
Sapete che non mi piace L.Armstrong e non sono stata mai felice del suo ritorno. Non mi è piaciuto come si è comportato nell'Astana e con A.Contador. Mi è sembrato troppo arrogante e abbastanza maleducato.
BUT of course he was a great racer and he's demostrating he's still able to read the race better then everybody else (TdF stage 3).
Ma certamente è stato un grande corridore e sta dimostrando di saper ancora leggere la corsa meglio di chiunque altro (vedi tappa 3 del Tour).
NOW I noticed that my dear Andy is glued to his wheels, and that's wise because he can learn a lot.
Ora, ho notato che il mio caro Andy è incollato alla sua ruota, e questo è saggio perché può imparare molto.
MOREOVER yesterday they were talking friendly side to side. They just looked team mates or very good friends. Ok, it seemed to me that Andy was talking the most, but I saw Lance said something once or twice. It looked like a conversation between a young but selfconfident champion and a old legend of cycling still - or again - on the road.
Non solo: ieri stavano parlando amichevolmente fianco a fianco. Sembravano proprio compagni di squadra o ottimi amici. Ok, mi sembrava che per lo più parlasse Andy, ma ho visto anche Lance farlo una volta o due. Sembrava una conversazione fra un campione giovane ma sicuro di sè e una vecchia leggenda del ciclismo ancora - o di nuovo - in sella.
Moving. If Lance is well acting with Andy and Andy is glad (perhaps honoured) to be his friend... I must def change my mind.
Commovente. Se Lance si sta comportando bene con Andy e e Andy è contento (magari onorato) di essere suo amico... devo proprio cambiare idea.
TdF has been pretty boring till now, because of the stupid decisions of his organizers: Tourmalet at 70 km from the line, lot of crashes, radios quarrel... I hope that Andy will attack in the Alpes: he's the only one who can. And maybe there his friendship and study with Lance Armstrong will be usefull.
Il Tour è stato decisamente noioso fin'ora, per colpa delle stupide decisioni degli organizzatori. il Tourmaleta 70 km dall'arrivo, un sacco di incidenti, la polemica sulle radioline... Spero che Andy attacchi sulle Alpi: è l'unico a poterlo fare. E forse allora l'amicizia e lo studio con L. Armstrong torneranno utili.

Damn this Twitter malarkey. Sorry everyone but I’ve just joined the 21st century and signed up to Twitter–the fastest growing way tell the world about each time you brush your teeth, blink or even think about blinking.

Accidenti a Twitter. Scusate ma ho appena raggiunto il 21° secolo e sottoscritto Twitter - il mezzo più ipertrofico per comunicare al mondo tutte le volte che ti lavi i denti, batti le ciglia o anche soltanto pensi di farlo.

A friend recommended I should join, I’ve been on it for the last week and I’m starting to get used to it now, although don't expect any Tweets from the peloton. But my main focus, unsurprisingly, has been on the Tour de France. As you’ll have seen it’s been a hard but exciting race so far, from the stage in Monaco, to the cross winds on stage three and then the lung-busting effort in yesterday’s team time trial.

Un amico mi ha raccomandato di farlo, io sono su Twitter dalla settimana scorsa e adesso comincio ad abituarmici, però non aspettatetevi alcun Tweets dal gruppo [alcun messaggio durante la corsa: SPERO BENE!!] Ma adesso, e non vi sorprenderà, sono concentrato soprattutto sul TdF. Come avete visto è stata una corsa dura ma eccitante fino ad adesso, dalla tappa di Monaco al vento contrario nella terza tappa e poi lo sforzo massacrante della crono a squadre di ieri.

Everything got off to a great start on Saturday. The hotel in Monaco was the nicest place I’ve ever stayed in and I didn’t really want to leave. As for my performance in the time trial, I was pretty happy to finish in the top twenty. When I crossed the line I thought I’d done badly but that’s always the way with racing against the clock, isn’t it?

Tutto ha contribuito ad una grande partenza sabato. L'hotel di Monaco era il posto più bello in cui sia mai stato e veramente non me ne volevo andare. Per quanto riguarda la mia prestazione nella crono, ero molto contento di aver terminato nei primi 20. Quando ho passato il traguardo ho pensato che ero andato male ma è sempre così nelle crono, no?

There are times when you think you’re flying up the climbs and when you finish you’re way down and then there are times like Sunday when you feel like you’re dragging yourself along and then you end up with a respectable time. I guess it shows that I was really digging deep. I’ve put a lot of work into my time trialling this year. You could be forgiven for thinking I had my feet up the day after I’d won Liege but instead I was out testing my time trial bike at 10am. If you want to lay the foundations for success you have to start early.

Ci sono volte in cui ti sembra di volare in salita e quando hai finito sei indietro e altre invece come sabato che ti sembra di esserti trascinato in giro e poi finisci in un tempo rispettabile. Io penso si sia visto che mi sono impegnato a fondo. Ho lavorato un sacco sulla crono quest'anno. Dovreste togliervi dalla testa che il giorno dopo la vittoria alla Liegi io me ne sia stato con le mani in mano mentre alle 1o di mattina ero fuori a provare la mia bici da crono. Se vuoi mettere le basi del successo devi cominciare presto.

I can’t move on without talking about Fabian. He has been immense in both time trials. You could see how strong he was in yesterday’s team time trial when he was pulling the entire team along. Personally, it was a very hard stage. It’s difficult to describe just how tough the team time trial is. In an individual test you can ride at your level and adjust the level of pain by backing off but in a team effort you can’t do that. You have to adapt to the efforts of others.

Non posso andare avanti senza parlare di Fabian. E' stato immenso in entrambe le crono. Avrete visto quanto era forte nella crono a squadre di ieri, quando ha tirato l'intera squadra. Personalmente, è stata una tappa molto dura. E' difficile descrivere com'è una crono a squadre. In una prova individuale puoi correre al tuo livello e regolare il livello dello sforzo rallentando un po', ma in una crono a squadre non puoi. Ti devi adattare allo sforzo degli altri.

I could have gone a bit faster on the climbs, perhaps, but on the flat run in I couldn’t pass Fabian, who was doing an incredible 75km/h! Overall, the team are happy with the performance. We don’t have the same amount of time trial specialists as Garmin, Columbia or Astana, so to beat two of those teams and retain the yellow jersey is a great result for us.

Io avrei potuto andare un po' più veloce sulle salite, ma in piano non reggevo il passo di Fabian che faceva un incredibile 75Km/h! Classifica: la squadra è contenta della prestazione. Non abbiamo la quantità di specilaisti della crono che hanno Garmin, Columbia e Astana, perciò battere due di queste squadre e tenere la maglia gialla è un grosso risultato per noi.

Hats off to Astana though, they were the strongest team. However, I have to join the chorus of rider that criticised the course. This is the Tour de France and the organisers can pick any road they want to. So why seek out some of the smallest and most dangerous roads in the country?

Tanto di cappello all'Astana comunque, sono la squadra più forte. Ad ogni modo mi devo aggiungere al coro dei corridori che hanno criticato la corsa. Questo è il TdF e gli organizzatori possono selezionare qualsiasi strada vogliano. Quindi perché andare a scegliere alcune delle strade più strette e pericolose del paese?

The next big test will come on Friday when we climb up towards Arcalis. I can’t really predict what exactly will happen but I know the race is going to split up and we’ll see just how good my form is on the final climb. I’ll give it everything and I hope I can stay in front and maybe even a little bit further in front, if you know what I mean. But Friday is just one day, every day is hard at the Tour and you need a lot of energy for the final week of the Tour. Speaking of which, it’s time for dinner and then some much needed rest

La prossima grande prova ci sarà venerdì, quando saliremo verso Alcalis. Non posso proprio prevedere che cosa succederà esattamente ma so che la corsa esploderà e nel finale vedremo quanto è buona la mia forma. Lì darò tutto e spero di poter stare davanti e magari anche un po' più davanti, se capite cosa intendo dire. Ma venerdì è soltanto un giorno, ogni giorno è duro al Tour e nell'ultima settimana del Tour hai bisogno di un sacco di energia. A proposito, è l'ora di cenare e poi di godersi un riposo assai necessario.

They disapear into the bus. We wait patiently at the barier, staring at the door. Suddenly somebody says: "Ilaria! buon giorno!" I turn my eye and can't belive that: he's Ed Buchette!! He's very friendly with us and says to RTL cameraman: "Look at the Italian supporters!" But unfortunately Ed goes away before that Andy and Frank come back... I'd have liked to ask him to present us to them... Next time Ed, ok?
Spariscono nel pullmann. Noi aspettiamo pazientemente alla transenna, lo sguarado fisso alla porta. Improvvisamente qualcuno dice: "Ilaria! buon giorno!" Mi volto e non ci posso credere: è Ed Buchette!! E' molto gentile con noi e dice al cameraman di RTL: "Guarda i supporter italiani!" Ma purtroppo Ed se ne va prima che Andy e Frank ritornino... Avrei voluto chiedergli di presentarci... Sarà per la prossima volta Ed, d'accordo?

Frank comes back the first and just at the barrier close to me. OMG: so close that his arm is touching the mine... for 15 minutes!! Finally I move it: he is sweetly talking with his girlfriend Martine so the situation is vaguely embarrassing.
Il primo a scendere è Frank. Viene alla transenna, proprio vicino a me. OMG: così vicino che il suo braccio tocca il mio... per un quarto d'ora!! Alla fine lo sposto io: lui sta dolcemente chiacchierando con la sua ragazza Martine, la situazione è un po' imbarazzante.
