It's like that in three weeks big Tour: many different races at once, many different goals for different racers and skills. In the peloton a few riders were looking forward to Salamanca TT, some others were just waiting for it to be over, the most probably just tired and waiting for the rest day. It has been an hard Vuelta sofar: many nasty climbs and that killing heat. Many – maybe all riders are exhausted and in two days they will face three consecutive finishes atop. All that contributed to determinate yesterday results.
Tony Martin's victory isn't a surprise, surprising instead 1. the big fail of Fabian Cancellara 2. the big exploit of Christopher Froome. Cancellara had a disappointing season so maybe that isn't surprising too. Chris Froome TT is definitely because everybody were expecting Wigging, he did an amazing race but still... had the leader jersey stolen by his team mate and helper, the young British born in Kenya. A TT is the truth race, you can't dissimulate and Froom is a super shape. We saw that in the mountain, he confirmed it in Salamanca. Bravo! Even if now they will have an honest talk at Sky...
Cancellara was disappointing but Fuglsang did well: 6th. The Dane is ambicious, strong and serious: in another team he would be a leader already. In the Tour de France he didn't shine just because he was half sick. I wonder till when he is going to accept that subordinate role. Anyway LEOPARD TREK is now the best team, with three riders in the stage top ten (Monfort 10th) and Fuglsang is only 12'' from Froom – EHM – in the GC. Good TT also by O'Grady (15th).
Amongh the other main contenders for the final victory, Nibali (15th) was the best one and not so good given that usually he can timetrial. He's 4th in GC at 31''. Bad news for Scarponi, lost in the GC at 4'.22''. Mollema honoured his jersey: 25th. He even passed Chavanel (disaster for the Frenchman!) and says: "It's not over!". As far as I know him, Mollema has got an high opinion of himself and never gives up: I like that guy! Allez Bauke!
Finally, Taylor Phinney: he started 3th and made the 5th best time. Read his blog for dettails – always a great stuff – I only say he's right to be happy with his result even if he can do also better.

Rumors about a merge in 2012 between LEOPARD TREK and Radio Shack have been denyed by the team press official. The things sounded possible because in the past there was a big talking about the Schleck going to Radio Shack, Trek is a common sponsor and Becca looks unhappy with the – lack of – results of his well payed team. He isn't alone I'd say. Maybe a new team needs a longer time to get results – look to Sky. Maybe they must change something. But sofar the merge isn't confirmed. In my opinion the Gazzetta would have been better to wait a bit before to publish that story as an accomplished fact.
