Giro: who is Navardauskas and what he said

http://www.uci.ch
"Ramunas Navardauskas was a revelation of the Tour de France last year. Still a neo-professional, he showed himself by consistently leading the peloton and taking part a successful team time trial effort. This afternoon, those same rouleur’s skills allowed him to take the leader's pink jersey of one of the world's most prestigious races: the Giro d'Italia. Ranked 6th in Saturday’s prologue, in Herning, the Lithuanian rider won today's team time trial with Garmin-Barracuda, averaging a speed of 53.741kph on the 33.3-kilometer course around Verona.

He replaces US Taylor Phinney (BMC racing Team) at the head of general classification, and he leads his own team-mate, American sprinter Tyler Farrar, by 10 seconds.

Navardauskas, 24 years old, was a trainee in the World Cycling Centre (WCC), in Aigle, Switzerland, in 2006, while he was a Junior. First scheduled for a track training camp, he revealed such ability as a road racer's that the coaches offered him a full-time traineeship during the season. In October, he raced a French one-day competition, Paris-Vierzon, where he had a special authorization to compete among Under-23 riders.
Comments

-Ramunas Navardauskas (Garmin-Barracuda) :
About his leader's jersey at the Giro d’Italia :
" We thought we could win today, but for myself, I wasn’t sure if I could hold with these guys. I was so glad to stay with them as I tired in the last 10 kilometres. This jersey is a really big thing for me. It’s been a really good Giro’s start for me up to now, although we’ll see how it is tomorrow."

About his time at the World Cycling Centre:
"The World Cycling Centre changed my way of cycling. Thanks to my time there, I understood that I loved this sport. I met different road and track coaches, all of whom helped me enormously. It is really an ideal place for an athlete wishing to progress".

-Frédéric Magné (World Cycling Centre's Director) :
"We are very happy here with this victory. We only have good memories of Ramunas and, in his way, he has paid us a nice tribute one day before the celebrations of the WCC's 10th anniversary! This performance is a meaningful symbol because it shows that our athletes have a solid physiological profile,  and that we technically and humanly support and develop them".

-Michel Thèze (World Cycling Centre's Coach in 2006) :
"Ramunas is a very kind rider who still keeps in touch since. He had a blank in the two seasons following his time at the WCC because he couldn't express himself in the teams he had signed for. He restarted his career in a very fine way in the last three years and he confirms today in the Giro that he has big potential”.
