Giro 2012: wild cards to...

...Androni Giocattoli (ITA), Colnago – CSF Inox (IRL), Farnese Vini (GBR), Team NetApp (Ger). And now we can discuss why and why not. Why NetApp? Why not Aqua&Sapone? Giro is every year more international, starts from abroad and in Italy we have just two weeks of race. The new manager Aquarone launched an aggressive campaigne of revamping and marketing on the social media, trying to attract a new audience. But many big names will skip the next Corsa Rosa focusing on the Tour and starting instead in Tour of California: a trend we see since a few years.
Italy is still the country more represented in the peloton as number of riders but looks far from being the heart of cycling it was in the past. Maybe the general crisis of our State is a cause.... I was just thinking of that considering how many teams prefer Spain for their training camp. It's a long subject and I have got just questions at the moment, no answers and no data so... we'll be back another time.

Acquarone about NetUp: "can give the Giro a big boost in terms of promotion and communication on the German market and elsewhere. The real gamble is on a sporting level – will NetApp succeed in making a good impression in as tough and demanding a race as the Giro? Ralph Denk assures us that they will do a great Giro and we have decided to trust him."
