Gallopin: “Before the climb we were all together. The team did good work. On the climb Nibali attacked two times and on the second time he managed to stay away alone. Other riders attacked and I knew I needed to go. Normally we would be working for Jakob but with his crash yesterday I don’t know if he had his best day. My sports directors told me to go ahead and do a good climb in support of the team classification as we have three riders in the top 15. I didn’t think I was arriving in Oman in my best condition after normal winter training but I’ve felt good here. For the sprint stages when I did well I was not so surprised, but today to get fifth, I am very surprised.”

Team director Dirk Demol:
“We knew that today was the day that would make the GC. We’ve been working toward that for five days. All week we’ve protected Jakob; he started as our leader here. But he suffered a crash yesterday that didn’t initially look so bad, but just above the knee it is sore. When he has to use real power, the strength is not there. He did the best that he could today and of course we don’t blame him that the legs are blocked. The result is that he’s out of the GC game. But he tried and we supported him 100%."
“The big surprise for me has been young Tony Gallopin. I knew he had talent of course, but what he did today really surprised me. The climb at the end was nearly 6 km long at an average of over 10% so to see who was there around him at the end is a great, great result for him.
Fabian also did a good job today and he’s in 9th place. We’re keeping an eye on the team GC and our plan was to have three guys place high in today’s finish. They did what we asked of them.
What about Andy Schleck? without seeing the race it is hard to say what and how he did exactly, given that his team doesn`t tell. I suppose he helped. Of course Tour of Oman wasn`t a goal, of course Gallopin in 3th (in GC) is better then Andy Schleck in - for exempale 15 - Anyway today finish was an interesting test: I`d like to know his feelings there. Maybe some journalists could ask about that instead of about Tour de France...
RSNT still leads the team GC.
