Volta a Catalunya 3: Closed for snow - and more

Honestly, organizers should have thought before. Snow in March in a sky station isn't exceptional. Like in last Tirreno the queen stage of an important race has been shortened last minute changing completely the face of the competition because here - like there - climbers could have gained many seconds and maybe minutes. In add many riders had to abandon to avoid risks in this earlier part of their season.
Results sofar are:
1 Janez Brajkovic (Slo) Pro Team Astana
2 Michal Golas (Pol) Omega Pharma - QuickStep
3 Mikael Cherel (Fra) AG2R La Mondiale
4 Chris Anker Sörensen (Den) Team Saxo Bank
Cyclingnews reports "it was expected that the stage would not be counted for the GC rankings." Amongh the retired riders there is also Andy Schleck it seems: if confirmed that would be a very bad news because ok you can train at home, ok your goals are later - maybe you even has got just one goal in July - but to be competitive you need days of racing in true races.
Meanwhile in Dwars door Vlaanderen NikiTerpstra won solo in front of Chavanel. Pozzato keeps surprising me: he's 6th! It seems he REALLY turned a page. He also persuaded the organizers of Flanders and Roubaix: his team got invited.
1 Niki Terpstra (Ned) Omega Pharma-Quickstep
2 Sylvain Chavanel (Fra) Omega Pharma-Quickstep
3 Koen De Kort (Ned) Project 1t4i
4 Jan Ghyselinck (Bel) Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne
5 Alexandre Pichot (Fra) Team Europcar
6 Filippo Pozzato (Ita) Farnese Vini - Selle Italia
7 Sep Vanmarcke (Bel) Garmin-Barracuda
8 Maarten Wynants (Bel) Rabobank Cycling Team
9 Lloyd Mondory (Fra) AG2R La Mondiale
10 Jens Keukeliere (Fra) GreenEdge
There is another race in these days: La settimana internazionale Coppi e Bartali. Stage 1 winner was Palini (Team Idea), a nice young guy you can read abut on today Gazzetta. His family has got serious economic problems at the moment, like many in Italy, so...that victory is dedicated to them. Today Viviani won stage 2(I), NetApp the TTT (II).
I'm very happy today - even if deadly tired - because I went to the rail station pedaling instead of standing half an hour in a bus.
Florence by bike isn't exactly an easy ride: dangerous because of traffic, annoying because of bad roads, frustrating because of turists stopping in the midle of a square you have to cross or just occupying it like a peaceful but still obtrusive army. In spite of that pedaling in the cold of the early morning, in the sunshine of the Spring, amongh the beautiful monuments everybody envy... well it makes your day.
Today is the first day of the year in many cultures. My friend Najmeh, who is Persian, came for lunch and we celebrated together. I feel good and surprised to be so indifferent regarding the poor guys pedaling in the rain, forced to abandon, angry and disappointed for sure... I pedaled in the sun and for one day feel deeply egocentric.
Seriously: I think that stage of Volta a Catalunya should be cancealed. Lotto Belisol for exemple tweeted: "Chaos in #VoltaCatalunya! Suddenly they tell the teams that the finish will be in 10km. No finishline, no nothing.. #update "...
