A one man show today: Amets Txurruka wearing the best climber jersey went away solo collecting points in order to keep it. 77 km to go Txurruka's advantage was 5'03''. He crossed solo the first sprint in Treviño and just for that is going to wear also sprints jersey tomorrow.
The peloton was taking it easy and I spotted Andy Schleck confortablely riding at the front. ORICA-GE of race leader Gerrans was controlling and Txurruka's advantage slowly decreased.
Riders afforded Alto de San Martin (3ª) 1,2 kms 4,58% average. Jens Voigt decided things were way too boring and attacked. Lampre Adriano Malori followed and they quickly joined Txurruka who still had the guts to sprint for the last points. 20 km to go they were still having 1' but 10 km to go Malori tries to go solo. A mistake. On the last climb of the day the peloton caught them all. Chapeau to Txurruka and his epic ride!
On the last descent to Vitoria made tricky by the rain Herrada (Movistar) and Gadret (AG2R) attacked, then Gilbert and Henao. No way: they were all together 4 km to go. There was a crash without serious consequences and a few riders went straight into a field. The peloton was launched, quickly covering the last kms. At the bunch sprint ORICA-GE achieved a second win: 1st Daryl Impey 2nd Astana Gavazzi 3rd Angel Vicioso.
Andy Schleck finished 90 at 23''.
