It's again a war bulletin. The most serious is Fabian Wegmann (Garmin-Sharp): MRI examination showed up a detached tendon of the right biceps femoris muscle. Luke Durbridge (Orica-GreenEdge) broke his right collarbone. And of course they don't start. Chris Anker Sørensen suffered a concussion and finally abandoned.
Adriano Malori (Movistar) got a trauma to his right arm and shoulder, and bruises to his thorax and knees. Salvatore Puccio (Sky) fell hard: “I took it a bit on the face and I’ve got some cuts and bruises too, but that’s cycling. It can happen." But they will start.
Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) lost a lot of time (from 6th to 21st in the overall standings): "I fell at over 50kph and I finished in a ditch with six or seven other riders". Dario Cataldo, Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) and Steve Morabito (BMC) also crashed but are still racing.
Nicola Ruffoni (Bardiani-CSF) and Davide Appollonio (Ag2r-La Mondiale) finished outside of the time limit.
This year Giro is an elimitaion race!
