Giro d'Italia 20 and 21: REPORTAGE (and pics my way)

Italy is long, it takes a bit to cross it, by bike - like the Giro - or by train - like me. I didn't start from Bari - nor from Belfast! - but just from Florence that's half away but still it has been a long trip: four hours more or less, to Venezia and then to Udine, near Gemona, where a friend of mine - and big Schleck's fan - lives. She's a musician, a guitarist and guitar teacher and when she saw the Giro was going to finish in Trieste she immediatelly suggested that we go together. She didn't need to repeat it twice!
I left on Saturday morning and I was in Udine in time to watch the Zoncolan stage on tv. Honestly I didn't regret to not be up there. Honestly I enjoyed it... till when an idiot almost made a rider fall to push him. Not fun. And not a fan. Fans respect cyclists, this one - and many others - looked just too drunk to even respect himself.
Anyway it's true: Monte Zoncolan crowded and screaming - in spite the road was closed since the previous night . banners and flags, tons of amateur cyclists and bikes, creative 'tifosi'... it was amazing.
The race has been amazing too. Pity for Bongiorno, surprise for Rogers - second win and he  wasn't even supposed to start! - mixed feeling for Pellizzotti - a discussed doping bann, a gradual comeback, a huge motivation, simply WOW for Dario Cataldo - in the break AGAIN.
And behide the fight for pink: Rigoberto Uran attacks Nairo Quintana, it's a duel face to face. Nobody else can compete. And fortunately Quintana wins. He has won here his Giro, on the Zoncolan and on Monte Grappa. NOT on the Stelvio. Fortunately. Now everybody agree.
That was the true last stage of the Giro. For all, sprinters excuded. They had an extra day, a delux ride from Gemona to Trieste and a dedicated super show in front of a huge crowd.
About Gemona I'll tell you more. Last day at school, everybody looked relaxed. About Trieste I'll tell you now: fast and magnificent, 8 laps in one of the most fascinating city in Europe.
Luka Mezgek wins - again - and Giacomo Nizzolo was second - AGAIN! - 3rd Tyler Farrar - back to his best. Ben Swift only 16th.
In the sun. Under a blue sky coloured in red, white and green by the Frecce Tricolore.
Just the time to finish... and WRANG! a deluge. I was in front of the final podium, standing on a platform in the pourring rain, taking pictures of the big Festa Colombiana and almost crying. The most thouching Giro I had never experienced, and I didn't even liked it so much. So many things made me angry... but in the rain all was washed away. Nairo Quintana was holding Rigoberto Uran and all the crowded square was holding him in a waving of Colombian flags... What a day!
But about the final podium I'll tell you more another day.
All socked and cold but moved and happy I joined my friend for an aperitivo - by Pepi - and it was time to go. The beautiful sea looked solid in the light of the sunset, more orange than pink, more gold than orange.
At night we had an icecream to celebrate the Giro and all its stories
