Tour de Suisse ITT: RESULTS and reactions

 Tony Martin:
"I think I had a good strategy because I knew if I went really 100 percent in the flat part, I wouldn't have enough energy for the mountain. I had a split time in the first intermediate that was a second down to Rohan Dennis. I knew I had the power at that point, having saved some energy. So I knew I had to go 100 percent, but also be ready for the descent. If you go really full gas to the top you can't concentrate on the technical parts of the downhill. So I was always focused on the descent, not going over the edge at the top of the climb. I was also able to sprint out of the corners on the descent. I had a really good feeling the whole race, but I think I made the difference on the descent, and my Specialized Shiv gave me the confidence to be aggressive there. It was the hardest, most technical prologue of my career. You cannot underestimate that kind of a parcours even if the distance is shorter. I have three victories now at Tour de Suisse. It's a race that I like a lot, it's well organized and I try to do well here in moments that suit me. I will now focus on trying to do well on the Stage 7 individual time trial. I will do my best for a good result there, and we will see what can happen in the mountains."

Andy Schleck did a decent itt :)
Fabian Cancellara:
“There were three parts: the flat, uphill and downhill. For me I had a decent start. From the car I heard that I did a really, really good climb. I made a good progression – did not start too fast, or too slow – I was steady, in a good rhythm.  In the downhill I went down with less risk than usual, and I think that was mostly due to my crash last week. It made me brake more on the descent; I did not want to crash again. In the end I made a good TT and I am happy about it.  [General manager] Luca Guercilena and [director] Kim Andersen were in car that followed me, and they were very happy with the ride, and that’s also important because they have known me for many years. I think when they are so positive about the performance, that means a lot, and give me more confidence for the coming days. I knew it was going to be really tough, really hard. I am really happy about my performance because I did the maximum and that is what really counts for me today. To be with the front riders in this prologue, this time trial, I am pretty satisfied. I also had other circumstances; not the right training with the crash, and those few things in the end can make the difference. It was immense at the start, just crazy, like a football [soccer] stadium roaring. And then again when I sprinted into the finish. The home crowd made a difference – all the people cheering on the sides of the roads – that helped me a lot. I have to say thanks to them for supporting me. But now the real Tour de Suisse starts with hard stages and climbs.”

Bauke Mollema:
“It went pretty well. I’m up there with the best. It was a special time trial, a very technical one with a large number of U-turns. I even made a bike change. I like a TT like this, however. I just came from a high-altitude training camp. You always have to wait and see how your body reacts, but I felt good for the last couple of days and that was also the case today.”

Roman Kreuziger:
“I had almost forgot how hard it is to race at full speed. Now today’s stage is done but Tour de Suisse still has to start properly. I will stay focused”
