Up The Green Mountain: Tour of Oman 4... and Me

The Green Mountain! what a magical name!It always reminds me The Enchanted Mountain by Thomas Mann: secluded place of essential happenings, epiphanies and madness. Oman itself  is magical to me, and not because of a soppy orientalism. I learnt to love its challenging nature and as I said it's the sole place in the Arabic peninsula I'd like to vist. I day dream about its beautiful sea and its charming coloured mountains: warm ocra, dark red, arcane jade green...

The Green Mountain, like Willunga Hill, found its place amongh the iconic places of cycling recently but steadly. Vincenzo Nibali conquered it today and that's a good sign for the Shark, who had a good winter and is ready to bite.
But for me today the Green Mountain sounded more like a mountain of  work with derisory green teeth. It has been an utterly demanding day and I'm still shattered.

Romain Bardet:
"We lived a great day, in the heat. I'm happy with my result but also with our work as a team. AG2R LA MONDIALE was able to made the race together with Astana. I attacked 3 km to go to bridge to Fulgsang, then with Nibali it has been really close. I'm happy beacuse we had talked a lot about that stage and even if it's just February it rassures me about my work in the winter. Tomorrow there is another big stage with a lot of climbing. Many things can still happen."

George Bennett:
“They didn’t put any pressure on me,” he added. “They really kept in mind that it’s hard to go for a top spot in the general classification after a long trip and a time difference of nine hours, and I like that. It took a while before I recovered from the jetlag, so I wasn’t even able to follow the first 50 riders in the race in the first days. Today, I felt much better and my seventh place gives me a lot of confidence. I took the next step in my development in these days and I hope that I can confirm that during Paris-Nice next month.”

Brendan Canty:
"Extremely proud of today's ride @tourofoman ,only possible from selfless @DrapacCycling teammates &support!Thx👊"

Floris De Tier:
"Very nice to ride uphill between riders like Nibali and Dumoulin"
